Ako remains in Chestnut Ridge through the summer while everyone decides what the best place for her is. Meanwhile, as fall approaches there is uproar in Dambele Palace. Queen Afua has died and despite having four children, they are all unfortunately girls. Though the kingdom has been successfully headed by a female monarch for two generations now the kingdom is restless and wishes for a male heir to ascend the throne. The king tries to keep things calm but the kingdom is in chaos. He moves quickly to coronate Amara and has her hold court with some allies to ensure her future as the leader.
A grand announcement of her coronation is planned and though Lord Obi once again steps forward to try to take the throne, the new queen receives help from an unlikely source -- the spirit of her deceased aunt and Lord Obi's sister, Amarachi Darong. She points out that Lord Obi is old and will also likely pass soon with no legitimate male heirs. Afua has done a great job and surely Amara will be an equally fair and kind ruler. The kingdom agrees with Amarachi and peace is restored but Amara knows the people are restless. She needs a king -- and a MALE heir -- and SOON.
Following the funeral for their sister Afua, Ruka and Asa meet up to talk about their mothers future. While Ruka is more than happy to have Ako with her, Asa can see that things are a struggle for her right now. She is finding balancing motherhood and work very difficult and with another baby on the way Asa just can't see how Ruka will make it all work. Jihoon travels for work and Senbamachi just doesn't offer the same type of life that Old New Henford does.
Ruka's life is busy and hectic. She is building up a career that is demanding on her body and her time. Jihoon is also building a future that requires him to spend a lot of time and effort on his work. Meanwhile Asa is thriving. She is loving motherhood with her two girls and even wants to have more! She works on her own time as a personal chef. Cian is working as a writer and can take time off when needed or work from home. They have a sprawling estate with animals, a pool, plenty of activities and more gentle weather.
Nothing is decided right away but when Ako calls Cian in the middle of the day to tell him she thinks Tatsuya is going to propose to her they all know that a decision needs to be made SOON. Cian has other problems too. A fox has been sneaking into the chicken coop and stealing eggs!
Will Cian solve his fox problem? Will Ruka learn to balance motherhood and work? Will Ako find a permanent home before it's too late? Next time...
